Who are you and what do you do?
We’re not a class, or a traditional play café, we are a community space for families. Classes often focus on outcomes for the child, but we’re here to support the whole family by offering a relaxed, fun, and affordable space to play and connect with others. We do include some class-like elements such as sensory play, role play, small-world play, crafts, and song time, but our sessions aren’t structured. Song time is every two hours, though children are free to continue playing if they prefer. Unlike most play cafés, we change our theme and activities every week, so every visit is different. Our large tables are designed to encourage chat and connection between families. Think of us as a community café for families with young children.
What does CIC mean?
CIC stands for Community Interest Company — this means we’re not-for-profit and that we exist to benefit our local community rather than private owners.
Is there a charge?
Yes and no! We’re a not-for-profit organisation, but we do need to cover our costs. • £5 per child (aged 1+) • £3 for siblings • £3 for children aged 6–12 months You can pay online when booking, or in person if dropping in. If cost is a barrier, we o;er “free funded spaces” — just click the button when booking. We only ask that if you can afford to pay, please do, so we can keep the café running for everyone.
Do I need to book?
You can book online via our website www.theowltreechildrenscafe.com But there is no need to do so. We operate a drop in policy anytime, but if you are coming as a larger group please give us a heads up by booking in advance or messaging us. We aim to be as flexible as possible as we know how unpredictable timings can be with little ones! We have no set times or time limits and technically you can stay as long as you like.
What age is The Owl Tree suitable for?
We mainly cater for children aged 0–5, though our afternoon sessions are also enjoyed by children up to around 7 years (Year 2). For newborns, our focus is really on supporting parents and carers — providing a welcoming, a;ordable space where you’ll always find a friendly face. As your child grows, they’ll get more and more out of their visits too.
I have a newborn — what can you offer me?
